Countable noun. The plural form 'Hungarians' refers to the people of Hungary collectively. When used as a demonym, 'the Hungarians' can also mean the entire nation. Note that 'Hungarian' is also an adjective with the same spelling — 'a Hungarian artist' uses the adjective, while 'a Hungarian' uses the noun.

Uncountable noun; never used with an article when referring to the language in general ('Hungarian is difficult', not 'the Hungarian is difficult'). The definite article is used only when specifying a particular variety: 'the Hungarian spoken in Transylvania.'
