名詞後綴

加在動詞後形成名詞,表示動作、過程或結果

A group of letters added to the end of certain verbs to create nouns. The resulting noun usually refers to an action, a process, or the outcome of something. For example, adding -ment to 'develop' gives 'development', which is the process of growing or improving.

例句

The development of electric cars has reduced air pollution in many cities.

電動車的發展已經減少了許多城市的空氣污染。

development — noun form of 'develop'

Sanjay and his neighbours reached an agreement about sharing the garden space.

Sanjay 和鄰居們就共用花園空間達成了一項協議。

agreement — noun form of 'agree'

用法筆記

The suffix -ment is very common in English, but it does not work with every verb. Instead of trying to create new words by adding -ment yourself, it is safer to learn the common -ment nouns one by one. For example, 'enjoy' becomes 'enjoyment', but 'like' does not become 'likement'.
