This formal verb is mainly used in political and business writing. It describes the reverse of nationalization: a state-owned business, utility, or industry is sold or transferred to private owners.
常見錯誤
Do not use denationalize for a person losing citizenship in ordinary learner contexts; use 'strip someone of citizenship' or 'revoke citizenship' instead.
Denationalize is transitive: say 'denationalize the railway', not 'the railway denationalized' when you mean the government sold it.
